What's new

What changed in each version of Shelfed.

0.2.0

A commonplace book, PDFs made into real EPUBs, and a bookcase that knows what you're reading.

  • A PDF can become an EPUB that reads like a book: chapters from its bookmarks or headings, paragraphs joined back up, words broken over lines made whole, two columns read in order, pictures kept, and the running heads and page numbers left out. You look it over first, name the chapters and choose what to keep.
  • Drag a box over the covers or down the list to select books, as on the desktop, with Cmd or Ctrl to add to what's selected.
  • A commonplace book gathers every line you've marked, in every book. Search it, copy it out as Markdown, or open a book right where the line is.
  • Finishing a book is a moment: Shelfed asks how you liked it, shows how long it took, and offers what's next, the next in its series first.
  • What you're reading lies in a pile on top of the bookcase, a series stands together as a box set, and a shelf can run through its spines' colours.
  • The 3D bookcase draws only what you can see, so a big library stays smooth.
  • The reader's page follows the app's light or dark, unless you choose a paper yourself.
  • Every screen got a polish: readable titles at any width, covers that keep one size, and books without a cover in their spine's colour.

0.1.3

See what a free book is before adding it.

  • Click a book under You may also like, or on the Classics page, and a window shows its whole title, what it's about and where it comes from. You can add it from there.
  • A suggestion that couldn't be found gets another try. If a free book shows up without its cover or Free button, opening it looks again.

0.1.2

Bring books over from your Kindle.

  • Plug in a Kindle and Shelfed shows the books on it that aren't in your library yet, and brings them over in one click. They're copied, so they stay on the Kindle too.
  • Clearer email setup. Settings now says which services want an app password rather than the one you sign in with, and links to where you make one.
  • The numbers in the side panel are for the shelf you're on, so On your Kindle counts the books on it, not your whole library.
  • Library warnings are logged from the start, not only after the library is moved.

0.1.1

The first release.

  • Your library as plain files, one folder per author, readable with or without Shelfed.
  • A reader for every common format, with highlights, notes, bookmarks and search, and reading aloud in your system's voices.
  • Your Kindle, by name: recognised over USB, shown in 3D, and sent books by cable or email.
  • Converting built in, with nothing else to install.
  • Thousands of free classics, suggestions worked out on your computer, and details from Open Library and Google Books.
  • Coming from Calibre: every book once, with its formats, cover, series and tags.
  • In English and Czech, in light and dark, with no account and no tracking.
